Quick Summary

Tranylcypromine is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) used for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adult patients who have not responded adequately to other antidepressants. The recommended daily dosage is 30 mg in divided doses, with a maximum dosage of 60 mg per day. Tranylcypromine has several important safety considerations, including the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, hypertensive crisis, and serotonin syndrome. It is contraindicated with several medications and foods, and special populations such as pregnant women, pediatric patients, and geriatric patients require careful consideration.
