Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. It works by reducing inflammation and pain in the body. Meloxicam is available in tablet form and should be taken with a full glass of water. The recommended dose is 7.5 mg once daily, which may be increased to 15 mg once daily if needed. Meloxicam has several potential side effects, including gastrointestinal problems, increased risk of heart attack and stroke, and liver damage. It is also contraindicated in patients with certain medical conditions, such as asthma, and those taking certain medications, such as warfarin. Special considerations should be taken when using meloxicam in pregnant or nursing women, pediatric patients, and geriatric patients.
