Warning

Long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonists (LABA), such as salmeterol, increase the risk of asthma-related death

Contraindications

• Use without an ICS for asthma
• Primary treatment of status asthmaticus
• Severe hypersensitivity to milk proteins or salmeterol

Adverse Reactions

• Headache
• Influenza
• Throat irritation

General Guidance

No dose adjustments are recommended based on age, gender, or renal function

Pregnancy

• Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus

Nursing Mothers

• Use with caution in nursing mothers, as salmeterol is excreted in human milk

Pediatric Use

• Use with caution in pediatric patients, as the safety and efficacy of salmeterol have not been established in patients younger than 4 years

Geriatric Use

• Use with caution in geriatric patients, as they may be more sensitive to the effects of salmeterol
